Plus, as far as I recall, the OKA never placed award icons in our sigs.

i'm not going to answer this as i will rant and rave, but instead i'll just let it be. i am also only answering so you do not think i just ignored you.

I think its a valid question on my part, especially since the comparison isn't fair. Rant and rave if it makes your point because I was on the OKA for awhile and I never saw member awards. There was once a pseudo award post, but that never came to fruition. This is my idea, not anyone elses, not any other board's idea. And I am sincere when I ask why the comparison is getting your panties in a bunch.

no. frankly i do not appriciate being spoken to / typed at in this manner when i was trying to keep myself civil. and i will be ignoring any further questions on it.

Re: The OP Icon Awards!
I'm going to ask that the issue with comparison to OKA be dropped, and move on to the discussion of the OP Icon awards.

The idea of awards is not copyrighted by OKA, actually I believe OKA imported the pseudo awards from another site, but that's not the issue.

This is a fun way to reward positive posts and exemplary members, though I do understand Zimmerchild's concern, it's not so much that this was done on OKA, so much as the replies had a feeling of "yeah we did this at OKA, on OKA it was fun." Let's keep it fun, but not be trying to tie into OKA at the same time.

Let's not bite eachother's heads off over anything until *after* awards are given... and there shall be an unofficial rule installed against the "Tania Harding" maneuver, just in case <!-- s8-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8-)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8-) -->

No offence meant to the mods but...
As I've been a member of the management of several online thingies I have seen, and taken, heat towards the management for giving out awards. Accusations of favoritism.
People being accused that they choose to reward a person simply because that person agrees with the management, or worse, because they're friends.

Not to say that that'll be the reason, but you can bet your life that someone will assume it is.

If the forum nominates and the mods stay out of it and a not mod take charge of it the mods don't take the heat. But aren't we taking this a mite too seriously?

Understood Freetha, should we then have a voting system then for the awards rather than nomination. Make some awards and then whoever gets voted for the awards wins them. Simple and tallied nice and easily without any possible bias or favoritism to exist.

I think honestly a vote is the best way to do it... I mean, why should my voice count for more or less than anyone else's on such a matter?

Re: The OP Icon Awards!
So if we can agree with that- and I see no problem with it, since it seems like a fully democratic move (as opposed to a representational democratic move)- we only have to decide exactly what awards are going to be used and how often we're going to do this. And a possible concern as to what graphics are going to be used and how they will work regarding the size restrictions for the signatures.

Indeed.

As far as bias goes, favouritism and the like, for the short period I was able to do the 'truest post' dealie over there, I didn't care who you were, as long as you said something striking, thoughtful , or so obvious that I couldn't get my head around why nobody else could see it. And to the fear of the staff giving out pixel plaques to anyone who agrees with us... that would kind of depend on the staff having the same opinion about everything at all times. And we don't. Really, we're like a bunch of gamecocks on speed-laced energy drinks, with all the BAWK BAWK BAWK and rending and occasional fit of seizures...

Ok, I'm exaggerating. But you know.

Despite voting being more work (and less fun) for us speed-chickens, I'd be willing to give it a try if I'd be willing to listen to some proposals on how such a thing should be contucted. I mean, does the staff pick out nominees themselves? Or should ya'll have a chance to nominate people, we pick the finalists, and you vote to win? C'mon, help me out here, folks.
