Re: A "Meet Others" section.
Okay, now that that's all cleared up....can we get back to the question? I still think this section would be a good idea.

Re: A "Meet Others" section.
There's already a location section for personal profiles, beyond that I would think is excessive.

Re: A "Meet Others" section.
It's been said before: Some people don't like to reveal their real location without being asked. You want us to pm EVERY SINGLE MEMBER in hopes of finding people in our area?

My mind cannot comprehend such logic.

Also, on the subject of the Off-topic section being used for this until we grow...oh that's wonderful, let's fill the thing up with those posts so we can't even remember what else is supposed to go there.

I apologize if I sound snippy. I am not in the best mood.

If a person does not feel comfortable putting up their location, than personally I feel that it would be improper to ask them. I do not see how a general statement is more invasive than being contacted and asked, potentially multiple times. It does not make logical sense to me, if a person feels uncomfortable using the function already in place, why would they feel comfortable using almost the exact same thing, just with another dressing to it?

Because one only has them reveal where they are if they are interested in what someone else has going [meet/whatever]. The other has them reveal it all the time.

Also, I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm asking for a section, like "off-topic" or "articles" or whatever, probably titled "meet others", where people can look for friends, or people in their area, or a pen pal. You're acting like people were going to be dragged out into the open or something.

For that, though, people can just as easily check the frappr map and PM near enough people. If people don't want to be found, they can just not put their location on the map.

For the record, I'm not saying that it's a bad idea. I'm saying that I, personally, probably wouldn't waste my time on it. If someone wants to visit the Mall of America or something and happen to notice (via said map) that I live around those parts and happen to send me a message asking if they can meet up with me, I'm fine with that.

Maybe some people don't want to be on the frappr map. Maybe some people don't like the map at all.

Re: A "Meet Others" section.
Then don't ask the people who haven't said, aren't on the map and appear as if they don't want to be found. Its as simple as that Kay.

I don't think that a separate section dedicated to meeting Otherkin near you is necessary. If someone wants to hold a meet up near me, I'll see the thread and respond accordingly. Creating a new section is a bit redundant when at current, there are only 3 meet ups planned for people to attend. If there were more then I might see the point but people have made the announcements and have gotten responses in their respective threads. There doesn't seem to be an overwhelming desire from members to attend meet ups so a unique section doesn't seem necessary at this time to me.

If you really want an Otherkin meet up area, what about creating a LJ community specifically for that purpose? Then members here that want to attend functions can join and I know how you like to create communities. <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->
