it's never cost me anything, but then again, i've never started a group, i've only joined them.

Yeah. They don't charge you for being a member but if you host a meet you gotta fork over some cash. I joined that place about a year ago and tried to put up a page for Oh-K....they charge you like 20$ a month if I remember correctly.

that's sucky.....no wonder there isn't an otherkin or good vampire meetup in my area...lol.

Re: A "Meet Others" section.
My two cents:

It may not be necessary at all.

If a person specifies their location (even in a only human-readable format to avoid search engine queries) and you're nearby, just PM them and arrange an informal meeting in a neutral location. I've met many kin IRL using this method, though it's hardly foolproof and some people out there are douchebags - hence neutral locations as a bare minimum <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->.

If someone wants to have a general semi-public gathering, start an appropriate thread. That's typically how we handle things on the MySpace Otherkin forum and it seems to work well for us.

^ I'll throw another 5c in on that. Pretty much my opinion on the matter.
