Perhaps the main site could, eventually, have an IRC chat thingie like OKA did?

It will be there, though I'm leaning towards our own FlashChat system, rather than IRC. Though, this is up to discussion.

OK! Um...well, if we're going for Blue or Green, I'll see what I've got and toss 'em at you a few at a time.

These are some of my favorites of that type:

If you want to see how they tile, set them as your desktop background.

I like the designs, but i think some a lot of them might be too dark for the background

I have something up now, still working on it. It is still a rough draft, no where near finish.

Still, feel free to weigh in on design issues as they appear.

Please, whatever you do, make sure it doesn't look like a Geocities site. If you're like me and lack design ability - Google Pagemaker is awesome at dummifying such design things for static HTML pages.

I hate to be "that guy", but....that rough draft is kinda.....ugly. The colors don't match at all. I'd run if saw that.

I think the background should be darker, and an image, while the tables should be solid colored and light (or you could use another, lighter image that matches). And for the love of everything, choose a color and use it. The contrasting blue and green hurts.

I vote blue. Or we could compromise and use turquoise.

Ok, looked over this a few more times, and though, overall I agree with you that I do not like how it looks at current (hence: work-in-progress), I'm not sure I follow all your criticism.
  • As for dark background that has to be an image: No, I'd like to stay away from creating a 'dark' site, as Kahoku suggested, unless the community feels otherwise and background images are never a requirement.[/*:m]
  • The color of the table is fairly light already, and the image is subdued, though I'm not sure I like it overall, I may take your advice here and either remove or change the background here, possibly lighten it even further as well.[/*:m]
  • Single-color websites only sound like a horrible constraint to webdesign, though too many colors is a problem, usually, as well.[/*:m]
  • Blue and Green do not contrast, at least, not in terms of being complementary colors. I'm not sure why this would hurt your eyes.[/*:m][/list:u]

I think it's definitely a good start, Xanthus <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile --> And I LOVE the green. Though if I may, I would suggest instead of the blue-fading background, set it to the same green value as the table background image, fading to a lighter value of green. (Kind of like what I had going on here.)
