Adult Forum
This has been asked in other forums and the answer is always "an adult forum with only promote adult conversations". Well, that's my exact request! PG-13 can only take a discussion so far before someone takes offense or a string gets a warning that its been checked for a parental advisory sticker. A topic such as 'energy work during menses' is something I know would be renamed and covered with glitter until it wouldn't even resemble something worth discussing. I'm with the whole PG-13, no graphic descriptions, keep the kids safe and all that. But there are adult themes that bear discussion on this forum. There are other adult opinions on this board that I wish to hear. Why can't we have an adult forum? Is it because that you're afraid we'll be talking about XXX rated topics? I don't think so, I think we just won't be held back by a kiddie rating and maybe be able to chew the meat off the bone.

This may not be a popular request, and I know all the old disclaimers and excusable reasons, but I think its something that will have worth.

Re: Adult Forum
I think an adult forum is a great idea to be honest..
Got one on my forums..

Is where discussions of "energy work" + "sex" could go... for instance..

Re: Adult Forum
I swear, Tai, sometimes you can read my mind! I was just mulling over the idea of an older 'kin forum to discuss more mature topics and then you post this!

I agree that some topics can (and often times should) be discussed that elicit a higher than PG13 rating. So I would support an adult forum under the condition that certain topics like sex wouldn't get overly informative. Giving information is great but there is such a thing as TMI!

On a related note, does anyone know of an already existing 'kin forum for older folks?

Re: Adult Forum
Personally I am all for the idea. I've been on two otherkin forums that had fairly lively adult forums and nothing dodgy ever got posted there. "Adult section" doesn't mean "pornographic" or "insanely violent" or "promoting criminal behaviour" and as such there is no reason why anything inappropriate would be posted anyway.

Though y'know . . . I can't think what would be "adult" about a discussion of energy work during menstruation, given that average age for beginning menstruation is somewhere around 13 anyway.

Re: Adult Forum
Just the topic itself, Arch, because I had the same thought about that, it was just an example.

Re: Adult Forum
Two otherkin forums that I have been a part of in the past had an 'Adults Only' section on the forum where the mods could give people access to. It was nice to have a place to be able to discuss either mature topics and or discuss certain kin things with other adults.

Our's isn't age specific, but we have an adult section and pretty much all our current members are over 20.

Re: Adult Forum
I consider this forum more PG-15 than PG-13......But that's just me.

I think it would be a good idea, as long as we don't shove ALL sketchy topics in there. For instance, any discussion on sexual orientation is perfectly acceptable for the main part of the forum, the admin team has discussed this and we find nothing about it unsuitable for 13 year olds.

If we make this subsection, we'll also have to do some brainstorming a figure out exactly what is and what isn't adult. We've already started discussing that, I believe, so we'll do that and then we'll see about making an Adult section, kay? After all, there'd be no use making it and then have everyone argue about what does and doesn't go in there.

Re: Adult Forum
the reason why i'm not overly fascinated with the idea is this: i don't want to split the members into two groups - the privileged who can access the adult forum, and the others who cannot, and i wouldn't even know who's 18 yet. so it would have to be an open forum, which means you'll still have to keep it at a language and level of detail that doesn't, let's say, offend young people. thus: why have an adult forum? put it in the appropriate section. if you want to make a topic on energy work during menses, put it in the magic section (if you consider it magic). we will not "cover it with glitter", as long as you don't go into a level of detail that i don't expect you to anyway. if some (imaginary) 13-year-old goes and makes fun about it, which could happen in an adult section as well, the mods will be there.

edit: i also think there will be more problems with what goes in there and what doesn't than what problems we might have with posting it anywhere it really fits.
