What program are you using to connect?

That was with Trillian. We gave up on it and switched to ChatZilla, which suits us just fine because we use Digsby for all of our IM at the moment. Digsby does GTalk, Trillian doesn't, so having Trillian and Digsby up at the same time seems a bit redundant.

I have no experience with either, but if you can't get it to work I still suggest mIRC - a) it's very user friendly; b) it is low on system resources so easy to run in the background; and c) I can talk you through it keystroke by keystroke if necessary.

I've only ever heard it called msging, with whispering - with all it's "oooh look how user friendly I am" and lack of actual functionality is generally relegated to web chat <!-- sTongue --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- sTongue -->
