Meaning, someone who happens to be a Pokemon could fit both the definitions of otherkin and fictionkin. These are mutually exclusive. I have more than one fictotype and that also affects my nonhumanity in some ways.

I wouldn't limit this issue to those with a bunch of kintypes, honestly. I have been friends with someone who used to consider themselves fictionkin and a few months later would be bothered whenever I brought up my own experiences with it because they expected me to "get over it". I know for a fact they had very few fictotypes, but turned out it was just a phase for them. A trend.

Hmm that's fair, I can see why some people would say pokemon are fictionkin. It is a pretty new term so I've just linked it with specific characters, which is down to the people I've seen/been around in various communities.

Having kintypes as a phase isn't specific to fictionkin, it goes for therians, otherkin and any other kin too that for some it is just a trend/phase, especially teens.

Adding a bit: isnt there also the possibility of people truly believing in multiverses (theres a better word for that I can’t think of it right now)? In doing so, creatures, persons, beings could actually exist somewhere, and would fall into otherkin. For example, if you’re miss kobayashi’s dragon maid, thats a dragon person, which certainly could be considered kin.

Elves also are known to come from other worlds, and so are types of energy beings. I hear it often where they experience a level of homesickness. Worse, there aren’t many resources for fiction kin to reference outside of books ans shows. I can imagine it might give a layer of ‘who am I outside of the world everyone else knows?’

I’d even say that many Otherkin research themselves (and even discover things about who they are) through books and maths, which isn’t too different than how fictionkin find connection within modern stories. Theres no guarantee that this isnt some au ou there…

And like what @darksou said, I could influence parts of them.

I’ll stop here I’m not well versed in this and I might have just spewd toilet water…

Dang it @Aarden, 4 minutes faster and now it sound every odder!

Edit: forgot some a’s…

It depends on what you mean by fictionkin being a new term. It isn't exactly new to me since it's been out there for quite some time and it is known inside the fictionkin community that it isn't limited to specific characters. It can be related to nonhuman beings depicted in fiction.

That is a very accurate way to describe nonhumanity through a fictionkin lens. As an example, I happen to be a Jack Krauser kin (yes, from Resident Evil) and that does affect how I see my own species. I don't experience my species as being fully human and it is partially influenced by that. While Krauser is, indeed, human, he also infects himself with a parasite and that changes his biology itself. I often have a sensation that I'm not fully human and part of that is related to this kintype.

I have actually talked to a Jack Krauser fictive and he also confirmed he experiences some level of nonhumanity thanks to that. I have some connection to parasites... This is also something that is caused partially by my Alex Mercer (Prototype) kintype since he is quite literary an organism made up by viruses that uses other bodies to make itself. It also has the capacity of taking the memories of the organisms it consumes.

Just a few examples of otherkinity + fictionkinity meshing together that I personally experience.
