Chizo Native Americans
I do tend to have dreams that are "true", but I think this one was pretty significant.

In my dream, there was a group of people called "Chizo" (pronounced "SHEE-zoh or "CHEE-zoh"). They had dark skin and wore clothes that weren't modern/western clothes. The lived along a river that had alligators living in it and tall grasses growing along the banks. A really friendly outgoing man was introducing his friend and said that his family was from somewhere else, but he grew up with them, so he's considered Chizo. I saw some people at the river doing something- maybe washing clothes, not sure. A white alligator swam around and when it got out of the water, it turned into a woman. I got the sense she was someone benevolent and important.

I looked it up online & there was a Native American people called Chizo that lived along a portion of the Rio-Grande from about 1500ish to 1700ish. Not much is known about them since they avoided interacting with the Spanish and didn't leave any written records. They were also nomadic hunter gatherers, so it's hard to learn much about them through archeology too. I didn't see any man-made structures in my dream- that makes sense with a nomadic group. From my understanding, they didn't have a government & weren't even really a "tribe", just a bunch of little groups that lived in the area.

I tried looking for any information about the white alligator woman. I figured maybe she's a deity or a folklore character. But I can't find anything that matches that. But then again, that would make sense for a group that didn't leave any written records.

RE: Chizo Native Americans
I thought of a few possible explanations.

1. It's all just a bunch of coincidences.
It's not inconceivable that it's all just a coincidence. There have been thousands of groups of people throughout history; Sooner or later someone would have to have a dream that happened to line up very well with one of them.

2. It's a subconscious memory plus some subconscious imagination.
It's possible I learned about Chizo at some point and forgot everything. If so, it's not unlikely to be able to imagine seeing them and where they lived. (I will make a point to stress I have 0 memory of every hearing about this group. So far, no one I've asked has ever heard of them either.)

3. This is a memory of a past life.
I've heard of people describing past life memories. A lot of people believe in reincarnation. I imagine it could be possible. I also can imagine memories could be lost, suppressed, or warped in this process.

4. I tapped into a collective consciousness.
I've heard the idea that maybe all or some of the events that happen in the universe are stored somewhere and can be accessed later somehow. My understanding is this is a more complex version of viewing a video that has been uploaded to the cloud.

5. This was a mental meeting across time
To explain this idea better, I arrived in this place through sleep and some or all the people in my dream were real people who also arrived there through similar means, bringing heir memories with them. This could have been them entering my dream or me entering theirs (dreamwalking across time), or we met in an astral plane or spirit world that is unbound by time. (From previous dream experiences, I do believe it's possible for real people to enter other people's dreams).

6. This was information that someone/thing wanted me to see
A supernatural force could have shown me these "memories" intentionally.

Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure.

RE: Chizo Native Americans
It seems likely it was, at least in part, that of a past life memory.

I tend to put more stock into past life memories if it's something mundane vs. supernatural. Mostly if it's logical things we have all done in our lives, things like cooking or meeting a friend which are common place in our current lives, it makes sense to me that remembering another life of something routine/common would occur more often than of something weird or magical.

That said, if you can remember specific details from the dream and then confirm they were correct using research, it seems more legitimate to me too.

Additionally, the alligator made me think of the Mayan deity Cipactli. I came across this goddess in the Netflix show Maya and the Three (which was beautiful and enjoyable in its own right!). Maybe it's something to look into further?

I agree. Mundane things seem more convincing. And being able to confirm details is pretty convincing to me too. I've had dreams where supernatural things happen, but I think they're just imagination personally. This is the only dream of a past event that I really was able to find confirmation for.

Oh, I forgot about Maya and the Three- I started watching it a long time ago, but never finished the series.

I looked up Cipactli. It's not quite like what I saw. But given the time and location of the Aztecs & Chizo, it's possible that this creature was inspired by that one. There seem to be a lot of alligator myths around Mexico and the southwest.

Another human/alligator creature I found is Cuca- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coco_(folklore)

It started out in Europe, but the myth spread to Mexico and south America when the Spanish and Portuguese came. So it's very possible they could have heard of this character.

It looks like there are alligator myths all around the world though. Which makes sense since alligators have been around since the time of the dinosaurs.

I like the idea of it being a past life, but my gut feeling says no. I only ever had this dream once. Never anything even a little bit similar.

There's also the fact that the person I was talking to was introducing me to his friend. So it's reasonable to assume I wasn't already part of the community.

The contemporarry science answer would be it's just coincidence. Billions of people dream every day; Eventually someone would have to have a somewhat accurate dream about this group of people.

But I got a lot of the major stuff right. I got their name right- Chizo, saw the landscape accurately (a shallow river in a rocky area with plants), they looked about right for people native to an area close to the equator, & there were alligators (I did not know there were alligator in the Rio Grand, but it makes sense). And I tend to trust my dreams- I get a lot of things right & the "real" ones feel different than "regular" dreams.

My gut feeling says it's something more like astral projection or a collectives consciousness. If it's possible to go to another place while dreaming- somewhere unaffected by time- it would be possible for 2 dreamers to meet each other even if they're from different times. If it's something more like collective consciousness, maybe I was seeing someone else's memory that got "saved" somehow.
