I know exactly what you mean. When I first found out about Otherkin, I almost "knew" I was Fae, but the whole Chaotic thing actually got me cnfused because I questioned if I wasn't a demon but that didn't feel accurate. I fit in with the Chaotic element, but not with the rest, if this makes sense. IA with the other posters on how we can be mischievous -- we can, and I often am. Like someone said, forget Disney and look into old folk tales.

Same here. When you're in a human body, and you feel your energy, and then you have that "human image" in your head, looking at a chick with wings and reading up on Fae... it's tricky.

It took me a while to realize that the only reason my energy's ever remotely human-shaped is because it's shelled in a human shape. XD

Of course, that's just what happened with me. Obviously there are plenty of Fae who aren't even remotely humanoid in shape or appearance.

From what I've read, Fae have a "fae" energy. Faerie's just as much of a place and an energy as it is a being, and all Fae I've met or encountered positively reek of the energy.

Well, not reek. It's rather nice, actually. XD
HAHAHA, I had to laugh at the "reek" XD
I know that this subject is a little dated, but I thought I'd take a stab at it:

With regards to Fae and Chaos, chaos is a common theme - mischief is almost a requirement

Leprechauns, and especially fear dearg are very mischievous, with the latter being downright diabolical at times. Brownies are often thought to steal possessions, and if your horse was tired in the morning, it was said a goblin took it for a joy ride! Hobgoblins can weave nightmares from gossamer, and satyrs were not only associated with playful sexuality, but of primal fear (The satyr god Pan = Panic).

Though I am not a fairy or pixie, being a hobgoblin kin affords me (or curses me, depending on your perspective) with a wholly chaotic nature, holistically. Aside from my more chaotic human characteristics, my delight in manipulation and trickery branded me quite a mixed reputation in grammar school - to say the least! And I'm sure that many of the other fae kin here can attest to the fine line between playful and painful, if you catch my drift!

Just a thought...

At the same time, I agree and disagree. I know they're out there, but I hardly hear from them: there are plenty of fae who are all about rules and order and having a stick up their bum.
One man's chaos is another man's careful plan.

True true.

On the other hand, one man's trash is another man's treasure, but when it comes down to it, to most people, crap is still crap.

I think this is a possibility why I (and a lot of other energy beings) have a humanoid shape. My physical nervous system tracks in certain ways which influence how my energy flows, or possibly just how I perceive my energy, and so it looks like me both as a shadow and as a human.

While my energy is somewhat malleable, and I think my head-spines might have been the result of me having hair-spikes when I first did energy work, I've long since lost the spikes but the spines remain. Why? At a guess, becomming consciously aware of my energy system took a "snapshot" of it, which then made the image strong enough to maintain even with changes to my physical body.

The same process could well be at work for any energy being.

My interpretation of Fae, which comes largely from knowing a good few Sidhe and Shiri, is that Fae is a world much like Earth without all sorts of weird mythological stuff going on. The most magical thing about it is (probably?) des'tai, or a conscious awareness of the paths of energy in the universe and itself. Your mileage may vary, of course. I definitely agree though that Fae energy has a distinct taste/smell/feeling that isn't present in non-Fae.
New thought on this, where we're concerned: We've got order, it's just not your d**ned idea of order.

I don't know that we qualify as Fae; if we do, we're probably the stick-up-bum type. Still, what we do doesn't look the same from the outside.
