Uh, using mirrors to ward off demons was offered up as banishing advice on WL, hence the title.

While being very amusing to read, it also gives me a question:

How much do the various cultural references and ideas (there are several; off the top of my head I'm thinking of European and Asian ideas of demons, but there's bound to be plenty of other ones to discuss) influence and/or match up with your own experiences as a demon?
Supposedly spirits can become trapped in mirrors, as well. Perhaps what wards off evil spirits isn't so much their own reflection but something about the mirror.

Mirrors used to be made with polished silver. Silver, in many mythologies, has been known to be hazardous to certain "monsters." I am not suggesting demons are monsters, Liliton holds a very special place in my heart and she was a very talented demoness.
i don't know about my natural form, but in this one i like mirrors... for some reason, it feels good to see the human me.

Actually, the title was a part of the quote The explanation was literally "demons hate to look at themselves".
From a theological perspective, I would say that "demons hate to look at themselves" memes are entirely the result of "demons are evil, evil does not like to admit it is evil, therefore demons to not like to look at themselves."

In other words it's a metaphor for how people can deny their own hypocrasy, and nothing whatsoever to do with "demons" as the word is used by otherkin.

Alright, while I did post the mirror thing to give you guys a laugh, I am wondering about the question I gave afterwards, which was:

"How much do the various cultural references and ideas (there are several; off the top of my head I'm thinking of European and Asian ideas of demons, but there's bound to be plenty of other ones to discuss) influence and/or match up with your own experiences as a demon?"

I'm an egotistical prat who enjoys seeing my sexy self in the mirror, personally.

I always end up looking at mirrors. XD

My demonic Masks are vaguely influenced by Western mythology. I say Masks because I'm a polymorph, and the demon forms I sometimes take just represent moods and stuff.

Anyway, the demonic Masks I have get their form from some stories I did about demons. In these stories, Hell was a real place but not created by God for punishing anyone; Hell was created by human belief in it. It used to be an okay place, and then the Christians came along and their ideas about Hell and demons made the place into a bad neighborhood. A lot of the demons who were already there were released on good behavior since Hell wasn't as good a place as it used to be. In some of the stories, some of these freed demons emigrate to Earth.

Demons in that storyverse take come in all shapes and sizes. Some are completely monstrous in form (but not necessarily in demeanor), while others are beautiful; some look like mutant animals, others look like humans; some are smart, some are dumb. Hell being a dimension roughly the size of the Milky Way Galaxy, it's full of millions, maybe even billions, of species. On the whole, the demons of this storyverse are like the aliens of star trek in demeanor - meaning they range from murderous enraged beasts to completely peaceful enlightened beings. There are even nonsentient species.

Anyway, my demonic Masks tend to come from there.

Not much, but sometimes it's good inspiration.
Ok, on the topic of mirrors, I haven't heard anything about using them to ward off stuff or about spirits being trapped in them (but it has gave me something to think about) What I have heard is that they can be used as a type of portal for angels, demons and spirits to get in and out of your home. My fiances aunt had to purify and seal a big one in her house cause it seemed like a lot of negative was coming out of it.
