As far as we can tell, it's independent of board log-in.
However, if you float the window, closing the original browser window for the chat will kill your chat session.
Also, two people so far have been confused because, it seems, the text entry box is not always "above the fold" - they had to scroll down to find it.
Also also, evidently it doesn't remember who's an op when you log off. We logged off yesterday, logged back in today, and had lost our op privileges.

that depends on screen resolution, but i can't make the chat window any smaller or it will look terrible for those people with a large resolution. the workaround here is to make a floating window.

The majority of times, it crashes the browser either when we do that or when we minimize the window that the floater separated from. And all of our other Firefox windows. (Speaking of which, sorry, people we never got to say goodnight to yesterday...)
I'm currently trying to wrestle a client into submission; Miranda failed because I couldn't see any way to pick a client other than the ones named in its dropdown box and didn't find ircstorm in there. Trillian's connected right now but isn't showing me a user list and I'm still not sure what's the fast way to get to the channel after connecting to the server.
ETA: Gave up on Trillian too. Trying out the ChatZilla plugin for Firefox now and it seems like a winner. Have to remember/look up a couple commands to get in after opening it, though; I can post that information if anyone else wants to try this client.

Once you have any kind of IRC window running, then "/server irc.ircstorm.net" should get you onto the server and "/join #okp" should get you into the channel. (Some programs might not use those commands, but as far as I know they're pretty standard.)
If you're on a PC, mIRC is the gold standard IRC program and I strongly recommend it.
In Trillian if you click on 'change' next to the irc info, you can specify commands to be automatically entered when it logs in, like /join #okp. That's what I'm running currently.

I tried that but it wouldn't pop up a window for the channel unless someone else typed something in the channel. I
know we used to know how to get the window, but it's been so long... T.T
