I was thinking, we have custom fields available, which, gods willing, will eventually show up near our avatars on our posts...

...what about a custom field where we could paste a link to our introduction? That way new members, if they want to know more about a certain poster, can just click right next to that poster's name and be taken right to their intro post!

YAY!
Oh...my...god. That is GENIUS! I remember myself how annoying it was to get myself situated when I first came to OKA.
Oh! oH! OH! I third that! Genius idea, Xanthus! It would certainly help everyone who joins get to know all of us better.
Seems a bit redundant to me. If you click on said user's name or their avatar it will re-direct you to their personal information. From there you can look at all of their posts and it only takes a few moments to locate their introduction thread. It may be a bit longer, but it still works. That and if people want to know something, I have no problem being asked either in a pm or a thread even if I've already answered it. *shrug*
It's not about adding functionality, I know people already CAN do this. It's more about making it easier and more accessible so that community feels more 'welcoming' to new members.

*nods* When I joined, I didn't even know how to find a list of someone's posts. And I'm too self-conscious to use pms in anything other than replies.

People wave and hug and leave cookies and that's not "welcoming" enough for you? What do you want, trumpet flares and champagne raining down from heaven? Besides, there is no shame in asking for help. However, if others are in favor of the idea, who am I to stand in the way or progress? There's no rule that says I'll have to link to my pathetic intro.

Nah, it's not really about me. I'm an internet forum veteran, even if I'm new on this one. I'm more thinking about people for whom this might be their first forum, or for people who might just not be very good with technology.

No, there SHOULDN'T be any shame in asking for help. But for many people, there is, saddly.

Also true.
The amount of things that pour out of you is astounding. I've only known you maybe a week and I've seen more suggestions from you in that period of time than some people can think of in a year.

As for the point at hand, I'm not quite sure about that feature. It does seem a bit redundant, but it could make it easier to learn about someone....

One thing though, that could become a problem. I get annoyed enough when people pull up old intros to say something like "hello" when the person isn't new anymore. So if this was implemented, something needs to go up that states that bumping threads when you don't have anything to add to the conversation is annoying and should be avoided. However, you can bring up the convo IF you want to continue it or have something to add...
