grounding problems and energy overload
grounding techniques, i know them... tons of them... but they only work for a short time (a couple of minutes), that's very frustrating and irritating. i was told that most people do it naturally and without even thinking about it, but that i was an exception. especially now that i'm trying to do some magic/energy work every day, i'm having troubles with uncontrollable... err... un-grounding?

also, very often while meditating, trying astral projection or things like that, my knees start twitching. it feels like they are loading up energy until it's released by the twitching. it knocks me out of my meditation every time and i hate it. it might be connected to the grounding problems or not, i don't know. trying to channel the energy down into the earth works for a minute or two, but it only delays the reaction and keeps me from my actual task.

any suggestions/techniques i should try?

Re: grounding problems and energy overload
Try eating a decent-sized meal after you do energy work, sometimes that helps.

Also, I think I read this in a comment on your LJ but I can't remember, if earth isn't your preferred magical element to work with, try grounding using your primary magical element instead.

As for the knee twitching, have you tried laying down while doing energy work? Maybe keeping your body and legs straight will help with that. You could even put a pillow or blanket over your knees so the twitching isn't as distracting.

Re: grounding problems and energy overload
thanks, eli. yes, i've tried grounding by visualizing fire that burns everything that keeps me un-grounded. it helped, but not for long. a red stone in my pocket was slightly helpful for everyday life... astraeus can help me ground too (helps for a while). but nothing really seems to have an impact, except for group energy work (which might as well un-ground me, depending on the work).

as for the twitching, i usually lie flat on my back while meditating (because my back hurts if i do it while sitting). it can't be ignored because it's one giant twitch that moves my whole body. also, the part where the energy accumulates is distracting enough.

Re: grounding problems and energy overload
There might be some psychological control issues at play as well. If you generally have a hard time "letting go" then it can manifest as a difficulty grounding.

If there's a way for you to raise your feet while you lay down, that may reduce the knee twitching a little bit. Have you spoken to a doc about it?

Also, beware of trying too hard, that's when things get jumbled.

Re: grounding problems and energy overload
yes, i do have a hard time "letting go" - but isn't un-grounding a way of "letting go", and grounding a way of keeping yourself under control?

i'll try raising my feet a bit. and no, i haven't asked a doctor yet since it didn't seem to be physiological. it never happens when i'm just lying around.

Re: grounding problems and energy overload
Grounding is to let go of your excess energy.
"un-grounding" would be to hold onto energy.

Re: grounding problems and energy overload
Is there really a way to ground oneself using wind/air? I have a hard time getting grounded in the first place, but then I usually lack energy in the first place.

I too lack energy when I start but I ground before I start a concentrated session to try to get energy. I either ground myself to the air or to water. I see it as a way to clean out stale or contaminated energy and clear a path for new energy. For grounding to air, I just imagine concentrating my energy into my chest and imagine the air sort of permeating my body and pulling the energy out with it. The very real downside to this is that sometimes I get interrupted before I can re-gather sufficient energy (again usually from either air, water, wandering energy, or fire) and I operate at a deficiency until I have enough time to really gather it or I go somewhere with a lot of ambient energy to feed off of. Though usually, this can be avoided if I have a donor, because the energy I can get from them is a lot more satisfying (to a point) than that I get from other sources, even if I'm interrupted and don't get as much as need. I was wondering if everyone else loses a lot of the energy they were getting if they were interrupted? Like if you need a time to store or integrate the energy you get into your system?

Now are visions ne'er to vanish;
from thy spirit they shall pass
No more-- like dew-drops from from the grass.

Re: grounding problems and energy overload
i was once interrupted while feeding from a crowd. my shield, which was supposed to keep all the garbage out, collapsed, and i was hit by a lot of unpleasant stuff, causing me to shift almost instantly.

also, i've witnessed how, during group work, a little disturbance can make the whole group's energy level drop to zero.

Re: grounding problems and energy overload
It happened to me this morning while trying to get enough energy for my second shift- one of my roommates popped in and started asking me a bunch of random questions about her hair -.- and I lost everything I had been gathering. But at this job, there's a LOT of ambient energy (I always thought of it as 'atmospheric' energy lol). I was thinking about grounding and kinda staring at the images of all that energy in my mind and I began to think that I wanted to just inhale it and make it a part of me. So I escaped to the ladies' room and found my little ball of energy and concentrated till I could see my energy and the energy around me and I started to breathe it in deeply. As I was breathing in this energy I was adding it to the sphere of my own energy so that I wouldn't lose any if I was interrupted. It worked! I kept this up till I had brought my energy up almost to normal (surprisingly didn't take long at all) and then sort of broke off my connection with the floating energy. It was as concentrated as energy pulled directly from a donor, which I haven't had for awhile . I guess for me it's like chugging a Monster.
Someone else try this out and tell me if it works for you
