Why are you here?
I don't mean in the sense of why are you here on this Earth or here in this life.

I mean why are you here on this otherkin message board? Or any otherkin message board?

At some point, almost all of you either came to the conclusion that you weren't entirely human, or decided that it was a possibility. You had reasons for that - be it memories, visions, energy work, astral travel, pure reasoning. But then you made the leap from that to thinking, "Hmm, I will register on an otherkin forum, read what otherkin say, and share my own thoughts."

Why? What's the purpose? What does being here do for you?

Re: Why are you here?
I have joined otherkin communities for the sense of community. I don't really have anyone offline who I can talk to about my beliefs and of the people I can talk to about it, few could really understand as only 1-2 of them are kin as well. I also join them to read the experiences of others. I especially find awakening stories to be interesting.

Re: Why are you here?
So would you say it's mainly a social thing, having a sense of belonging?

Re: Why are you here?
Whoa, deja vu. I'm in the process of replying there too. Yes, I'd say it's mainly a social thing, but I do enjoy the conversation on a deeper level as well....even if it can get entirely frustrating. It's always good to get the neurons firing. Questioning can be a real pain, but in the end it ends up doing one or more of the following: solidifying your beliefs, changing your beliefs, adding to your beliefs, showing you you're deluding yourself and/or clueless...and I'm sure there's more that could be added to the list.

Re: Why are you here?
Originally, to seek others' help in figuring out what sort of "not quite normal" I was.

Then to try to find others like me.

Now, because the discussion can be interesting, to have outside input on our thoughts, to reciprocate those things to others. and to get one more voice out there for the various perspectives that we hold on being not-quite-normal. Plus it's a good way to meet people who might end up being our friends in general.

Re: Why are you here?
I came to the community because of an open-ness to things like shifting and identity as an animal-person, were, kin or what have you. My first experience on a Kin site was in researching phantom limbs and it blew me away to discover other people had them too. So I stay, even though I'm questioning, because I've come to appreciate the serious Kin community and the feedback it can provide. I've also found acceptance of non-mainstream spiritual beliefs within the community which is a plus.

why are you here on this otherkin message board? Or any otherkin message board? I wanted to learn more about Otherkin and other people's experiences. I also wanted to meet other people like me so I could feel a little more normal.

Re: Why are you here?
Well, I've been interested in monsters in the general sense for most of my life, so one random day when I was about ten (I believe), I searched for "werewolf" and somehow came up with the old Werewolf and Shapeshifter's Handbook. I thought it sounded not completely insane and that it may or may not be something like how I felt, so it stuck in my mind.

A few years later when I started exploring these feelings of "you are not who you think you are", I ran into the site again, and started poking around to see what other people had come up with and, again, whether it was actually anything like me, or at least would provide some insight. After a bit I found the Were.Net IRC, and made some friends. Then I made some other friends, and some others, etc., and eventually came to OH and then Falcon induced me to go back to the EF chat where you kicked me here.

But mostly what I get out of the forums is that I secretly feed off drama and emotional pain- I mean the opportunity to debate, and uhm, make people more interesting via the application of logic. That sort of thing.

Re: Why are you here?
Why did we join this forum? Curiousity really. We had seen its name mentioned and it was recommended so we decided to check it out. Finding other otherkin may have also been part of it but, even that is mostly out of curiousity and general interest. So while we will stick around here and post now and then, I don't know that you will ever really see us on any other otherkin forums. But well - that is us *shrugs*.

Re: Why are you here?
Honestly? I had nothing better to do. When I first joined the OKA forum, it was really to have something to do while trying to pass the monotonous hours at work. The other places I frequent weren't holding my attention for 7.5 hours so I wanted to expand my horizons. I could say that it was because I was looking for answers or that I needed to belong but that's not the case. I found the community and it seemed like an interesting place to hang out so I did. In time, I grew attached to people here so now I can't leave. <!-- sTongue --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- sTongue -->
