Shielding
Dechtire Wrote:To the OP - I hate shielding. Not for the reason that I want other people not to shield but I feel terrible when I shield. People tell me it is because I'm not doing it correctly but any type of shield no matter the filters I create or the energies I give it leaves me feeling less like myself. My human body is enough weighing me down I don't want an additional shield. I suppose that is rather off topic ....

Thought I'd drag this over here. I hate shielding too, about like I'd hate being blindfolded. Though recently I've had some success with cloud shields. They seem to take up more energy than the normal type so I hook it in to an outside source. Anyway it acts more like a buffer or a cloak. It tones down the noise without making me feel stifled.

Anyone else have thoughts on shields?

Re: Shielding
We've always done selective shielding/filtering. Keeps the bilge out, lets us feel everything else, and runs off of what it consumes. Never been inside an indiscriminate shield before.

Thanks for dragging that over here
Cloud shields. I want to try that - sounds like a good possibility!
Indiscriminate shields, Shainin, that was the first type I tried creating before I really knew what I was doing and it is terrible - as are the thick walled shields I've experimented with. It is especially bad when for whatever reason youre doing something wrong and the shield doesn't seem to want to come down. But even the lightest shield can be terrible.
Motley I'm glad I'm not alone in not liking shields.

I run on the "It can only affect me if I allow it to." school of thought, and so don't really have reason for shielding.

Re: Shielding
I never create one for myself, so I never feel the weight of it. The closest I've come, I suppose, is casting protection spells on my apartment, just to keep some...*insert long back story here* nasty things out, and to give the apartment guardians a little help. I know I've shielded others- that, oddly enough, is when I've felt my wings the most- but I've never really bothered for a personal one.

Ditto. I really just don't understand what people think they need to be shielded from. =/

I run on the concept that everyone else gets along fine, so why should I be a target?

Re: Shielding
The shield is not to protect me from attack, but from ambient energies. These are neither good nor bad, but too much of anything is not fun.

Re: Shielding
Oh. Well, as a creature who, I believe, cannot be "well" without absorbing ambient energies, that makes perfect sense.

Ah, so it's more like a filter than a proper shield, I see where you are coming from now I was a bit confused when I started reading this thread

Personally, most of my shields seem to be subconscious and only activate when I'm either being attacked or in threatening territory. Mostly I put shields around my house to keep the random spirits floating around down to a minimum (my mother has an affinity for mirrors, and there is this one particular one that sits at the end of the hall and acts like a freaking metaphysical highway... >.>). I also tend to put a personal touch to my shields, for instance my Hello Kitty shield. Its a simple dome shield I put around my house...just with a gigantic Hello Kitty face imprinted on it. I like it, it's fun

*clears throat* ANYWAY, I don't ever just put up random personal shields. If I put up a shield it is to deflect a certain energy/entity and only used when I actually need it. Having shields up and running constantly is a drain on energy and makes you into a target.

*evil grin* wouldn't you like to know
