Pro Choice or Life
Which do you agree with and why?
With the presidential election coming up this is one of the big issues people have been yelling at each other with. So I was wondering what most of you felt on the matter and why you came to that side?

Edit: added a poll for more fun

Re: Pro Choice or Life
I prefer for a mother to be able to choose whether or not she gives birth. A child is a big responsibility, and if someone doesn't feel as though they're ready for that burden in their life, they shouldn't have to. Also, in many cases, such as rape, incest, affairs, or the proverbial one night stand, a pregnancy would be even more unwanted.

Re: Pro Choice or Life
I'm pro-choice. I believe a woman has the right to decide what should be done with her body. However, I'm not pro-abortion. I do *not* support abortion as a method of birth control. I think there are definite alternatives to abortion that should be taken into consideration, but I support a woman's right to have abortion as an option.

Re: Pro Choice or Life
I'm Pro Choice as well. I don't believe anyone else but the woman has the ability to understand her situation and if she's ready to raise a child or not. Some people are not responsible enough, some don't have the financial means, some just don't want a child. I also can't imagine the pain that a child feels, knowing it's not wanted. A parent who wants a child will raise a much more stable person anyways, than a parent who doesn't.

Re: Pro Choice or Life
i'm prochoice, i however do not feel it should be used as birth controle. i know some women who've had 3+ abortions. at some point someone needs to tell them no. not just for medical reason's, but for responsability reasons. i know some who will have sex but use nothing to for protection because the "don't belive in birth controle," however they will have abortions. this is not right in my opinion.

Re: Pro Choice or Life
I just had to have a little grin to myself about the incredibly USA-centric nature of the thread <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->

For what it's worth, I think both "Pro Choice" and "Pro Life" are magnificent PR brands and, being as I'm generally impressed by good branding, I support both wholeheartedly.

Re: Pro Choice or Life
I believe that abortion is murder. I believe that all humans (and other sentient beings) have the right to do whatever they wish to themselves.

I hope that answers the question.

Very pro-life. Pro-life and pro-death penalty. I say kill the rapist and incestuous fathers not the resultant child. If I am the father of a baby and the mother doesn't want the boy or girl, I would gladly raise the child as a single father.

That's very respectable, but what about the woman who has to carry and give birth to the child? That takes a toll on a woman's body. What about the emotional affect of carrying a rapist's child, and giving birth to it? I would think that that would only remind the woman or girl every day of how she'd been raped.

What about the child's feelings, if it ever finds out it was not conceived out of love but out of extreme pain? And what about the women for whom getting pregnant would be incredibly dangerous for their personal health? Is it worth their life for the life of a fetus? There are many things to consider, it's not a black and white issue.

Along with the fact that some women use it instead of birth control. That's incredibly wrong, however, I would not support a woman who prefers abortion to a condom raising a child. In fact, the idea of a woman who cares so little about her health (with STDs being so catchable and all) raising a child scares me completely.

Re: Pro Choice or Life
For me it depends on the circumstance. I personally think abortion should be available but not "on demand" as many "pro-life" organizations say. I think forced pregnancies should be the only reason for abortion. And I don't mean just rape or incest because there are plenty of women living under the regime of oppressive, evil men who force them to carry child after child because of either social law or a religious law. Consensual sex that leads to pregnancy is something that the parents should have to deal with and there is adoption. My one exception to this is that if the mother's life is in danger or the baby will more than likely not be able to survive outside of her body. Is abortion murder? No. Is it always the death of a human being? No. Is it sometimes the death of a human being? Yes, just as some miscarriages are definitely human beings that the body naturally rejects. I think as human beings we sometimes have to wield the death force for a greater good. In those cases, when chosen with wisdom, death even killing is not murder.
