Re: Pro-Ana-Mia
I've looked at a few, and I've actually been very impressed by the strong support groups for recovery that are generally provided, for all varieties of disorders. Anorexia, bulimia, EDNOS, compulsive overeating, etc. But they also help support people who aren't ready to recover... which is where the problems are. It's good to support the person with the disorder, reminding them that they are good people that are worth loving. If that's the deal, I'm cool with it... if you have a problem, you should have the right to talk about it, even if you're not ready to get help for it. What I'm not cool with, however, is supporting the disorder itself. Some communities go overboard and do just that. Most that I've seen, though, keep it on a pro-person level, rather than a pro-disorder level.
I guess my opinion is that they're really badly named.
