Preening and vanity?
For all you 'kin who can remember past lives as your 'kintype - can you remember smartening yourself up, preening, or acts of that kind? (for example, preening wings, licking fur, washing in a stream or river, etc.)

Do you have similar, equivalent habits now? For example, running fingers through your hair or examining split ends, smoothing down the front of your clothing, checking your appearance in a mirror whenever one's available?

From what I remember of my past life, no particular habits stood out - but I was very neat and kept my hair pinned up. With my clothing nowadays, I'm like that exactly. Although I wear casual, I have a habit of smoothing down my jumper/blouse and the thighs of my jeans when I sit down. (I don't tie my hair up, though.)

What about you guys?

Re: Preening and vanity?
Preening is also a sign of nervousness, or contentment. Either there's no stress or you're trying to pretend that there's no stress. So I've observed in cats and birds. I have a cat who has to lick her fur after getting booted out of someone's chair. She also takes a bath after having a really tasty treat. Birds seem to do it just because there's nothing better to do at the time.

Re: Preening and vanity?
Actually, bird's grooming has a very good reason. They work on it every free moment because their health depends on it. Wings only fly proper when the feathers are properly aligned and oiled, and a well trimmed and oiled feather coat keep the bird insulated from heat or cold depending on it's natural habitat.

Similar reasons are for why most wild animals spend long hours working on their respective coats.
Keeping it clean and trim and working as it should.

I have little ticks with my appearance, but none that are rooted in my kintype. Just plain, old fashioned, vanity here.

so can those of us who weren't something else in a past life answer this? well i'm gonna go ahead. <!-- sBig Grin --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- sBig Grin -->

I know now I do a lot of things that seem a bit out of character for myself. Like I take really good care of my nails. If they are even uneven I have to make sure I correct that. Cuticle creams, special lotions, the works. Also I do my best to make sure my teeth are in good shape. I acctualy had a dentist get pissed off and do unnecessary work on my teeth because he couldn't find anything wrong with them. So now I have 4 fillings that didn't have to be there. Before anyone says, why would a dentist do that there must have been a reason. When the fillings were put in, nothing was used to numb me up no novicane not topical nothing. He even drilled a bit. I even suspect now that what he did was mess with some natural formations in my back teeth. Considering it was the four in the very back. 2 (1 on each side of the jaw) on top and 2 (1 on each side) on the bottom.

other then that i can't really think of anything.

In my true form, there seems to be a trend to have air racing past/through the body as method of emotional cleansing. Flying and running are common (though neither seems necessary for any practical purpose).

Re: Preening and vanity?
Immolating to burn off extra stress and to keep my body temperature up... In this lifetime I do that on an energy level but tend to run my fingers through my hair, something like my catform does when she is thinking or content

Well, if we're talking about energetic cleansing, lightning/electricity works wonders. It's fun too. If you're a masochist.

Bloody 'ell. I must have been Jean-Luc Picard in my past life.

Meh, fire and earth are my main elements. fire first and foremost though ^_^ Comes from having a phoenix and a dragon, and being born in the year and hour of the dragon and a taurus in this lifetime >_>; Yeahhhhh... fire is fun!

A good way to heal though is to dive into the earth and let the soil heal you. At least for me anyway. Fire works to burn everything off, earth works to soothe.
