Of Elves and Bondage
I have heard that many elves and sidhe had very strong psychic connections with one another. These connections were like webs that tied the community together. Certainly this is true of the Shiri, but what about the rest of you? Did your kin have that kind of connection? If so, does this affect you and your relationships here and now?

I am asking this, because I find my relationships lacking something. For a long time, I thought this was due only to my experiences here, but lately I have started to suspect that is not the only cause. In my friendships and romantic relationship I get frustrated trying to make a connection I can no longer make. It's not the same as my normal human frustration--it's like probing around with a psychic tentacle for something that isn't there. I am trying to find a way to cope with this better, or somehow be satisfied with the great relationships I have (get the tentacle to retract and sleep).

Also, I am nosy and just wonder how common this is.

We did. We occasionally have a longing not necessarily to go home, but to be around others of our kind. More often, though, we're content to be with the people we think of as our "Clan" here.

I was never "around" other elves really so I wouldn't know.

Great title by the way...totally got my attention!

Angelic, not elf here, but I think we did have closer relationships than are possible here. Our energy sort of overlapped, and we often channeled energy from those who were further 'up the chain' so to speak. In my original unshaped form, prior to being 'in service,' it was hard to tell where one being stopped and another began. Most of them didn't even have individual names.

It has made be very picky about who I let into my inner circle of friends. They have to be people that I wouldn't mind sharing energy with, even if the extent of that sharing is much less that it used to be. Everyone else I'm generally friendly towards, but they're not really part of me. When I start craving that connection again, I don't look to humans to fill it. I turn to my shamanic practices to get in touch with the spirits. Any time I choose, I can reach out and find them.

The side of me that is the elf, Alynn'nari detests contact with most humans and others.

I find myself making strong friendships and relationships with other elves and dragons.

I also find myself with wander lust to head west to the sea and I often find my dreams to be in Alvan'diel (my homeland as an elf")

That sounds really intense versus the sort of bond the Shiri have! Has this interfered with recovering memories? Sounds like there would be a danger of digging up something collective rather than individual. In fact, how does an individual, or individual energy get differentiated enough to become fleshy? Sorry, a bit O/T--you've got me all interested in this now.

Thanks for sharing this. I haven't found any practices yet that feel right for me, so this kinda motivates me to look further. I feel the same about energy, which is why I don't like being touched by just anyone. It's not the 'dirtiness' or 'alienness' that's the issue, it's just too private--as if it gets too close to something private.

Are there specific reasons you don't like the contact? Is it just the lack of a bond?

I just get annoyed by most humans, due to them being ignorant most of the time. This does not apply to all humans, I have friends that are great that are humans.

I also detest vampires to a degree, no offence to actual vamps but I had a bad experience with a psi vamp.

In the case of the energy pool thing, nothing happened, so there wasn't anything to remember except for the feel of the place itself. The energy doesn't get differentiated. Technically, part of me is still there. There are no memories because there is no 'past.' Separation is an illusion as the Buddhists are so fond of pointing out. If I did happen to pick up on the illusions of one of my siblings, what difference would it make if it was 'theirs' or 'mine?'

But obviously the 'illusion' started somehow. I don't remember how. I can only guess. Some god probably made a pinprick in the fabric of reality to let enough light through to fill the thing he was creating. So, angel-me was born. Angel-me had a job and a purpose. Energy-me wouldn't have understood the concept. I don't have much in the way of memory there either. The thing that comes through most strongly is the way the energy felt as it flowed through me. Angel-me was more temporal than energy-me, but not as much as human-me. I don't think the memories translate well.

Do you notice a difference in the relationship you have with you human friends versus your elven ones (besides being able to discuss kin things)? Do you feel closer to the elves than the humans? I'm just really being nosy, I fear!

Motley, thank you for the explanation. It was interesting to hear your story! It sounds very different from the kind of bond we had, and possibly less confusing!

Not really, my friends are my friends.
