Not Draconic or Kin
Well, friends of the community. After quite some time of mulling things over and just seeing how I felt about things, I'm deciding to drop the Otherkin label. My main reason is I have phantom shifts to other animals on a pretty regular basis, too many for me to find explanation for and still be somewhat believable. We've all met the, "I'm a dragon, wolf, crow possibly shadow elf." person. I do not want to be that person because I know how it looks to me. How can I be skeptical of others' claims as such and not my own?

I do of course experience shifting of various types including a primary phantom shift to a dragon-like form. I'm thinking that my own human energy is sensitive to shape-shifting and does so mostly involuntarily. Whether this is a mental effect or a gift from my ancestors or a blessing of the spirits I don't know. But I'm finding the, "I'm not human in some intrinsic way." seriously lacking weight with me these days.

I will of course still be around as I love this community. Just thought I'd inform you all.

(I copied and pasted this from my post on another community. I'm just letting all my friends know so, if you've seen this elsewhere...yes, it's somewhat comical.) <!-- sBig Grin --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- sBig Grin -->

Or you're just a polymorph *shrug*. I'm glad you're comfortable sharing this with us and comfortable with yourself *nod*.

Re: Not Draconic or Kin
Have you considered that, like Sera said, you're a polymorph? Or some other type of shapeshifter? I'm not sure if you're aware, but there are people in the therian community who experience cameo shifts, shifting into other animals separate from their main theriotype. Just things I'm not sure you've considered yet.

No matter what you decide you are, you will always be welcome here. Good luck and I hope you find the answers you seek.

I am looking into Cameo shifting and Polymorph. We shall indeed see what more research brings.

Thanks friends!

None of us really know that we aren't just humans with a few psychological quirks, to put it mildly. So sounds like you still fit right in! And I agree with the polymorph thing. Those shifts can easily make you think you're a bit of everything because the mind can shift right along with it.

Neat. So what have you looked at as to why you might phantom shift so much, or have you not had time for that yet?

More or less I'm going with a more natural explanation than anything else. From what I can tell, my humanity (whether something in my mind or an energy thing I don't know) just does it. I can shift on my own but mostly I don't have to. Stronger shifts are usually triggered by watching an animal for a while. Otherwise, I usually revert back to a dragon-like form or simply let the sensation fade into the background of my awareness. Like when I'm at work and involved in doing everyday tasks.

I have however also considered that this may be a gift from the animal spirits or the gods. Whether or not I'm supposed to do anything with it, I have no idea. And I've also wondered if perhaps shifting like this is a genetic trait passed throughout generations of my ancestors. Stories of the Norse Berserkers intrigue me. They weren't the ah, nicest of folks but...in a way they would "put on" an animal mindset and go into battle with no weapons or armor, only their bare hands and teeth. I can imagine them "feeling" the claws or teeth of a bear or wolf. Now whether this was accomplished by drugs, trance-work or something else I don't know but...say they were a type of shapeshifter. Perhaps this ability passes on and for me it manifests as phantom and mental shifts. Just a thought.
