Hello, I'm Russ.

I'm not otherkin. I co-founded a site through a different host a while back (having nothing to do with this, more of an eclectic thing, but I noticed we didn't have any otherkin members or information about it) and am here on a bit of a fact finding mission. Don't worry admins; I'm not trying to troll, spam, or steal content, I just want to be upfront and honest about what I'm doing here. I've met otherkin before (via web as well as IRL) some who seemed less than serious and some who were discovering themselves; but even having met them I don't know all that much about it. I'm here to learn. I've been reading through some of the posts and I'm finding what I read different from what I was expecting.

Anyway; about me. I'm in my mid 20's, BA in anthropology, not married (yet). I identify myself as a Pagan, but I really don't follow any path. I recently took up gardening and I think I actually killed a whole window sill full of plants today when I tried to transplant them... turns out I'm not so good at gardening. I'm clumsy and forgetful, pretty chill and laid back, I have a weird 'hidden talent'; I'm really really good with names, almost freakishly so. I have no idea what to do with my degree, none at all, I think I might go for a Masters just to save myself the hassle of thinking about it anymore...hmm...

I think that about sums up all the good parts. Thanks for approving me, I hope I have the chance to get the community better!

Hello and welcome! There's no problem with being a "human-kin" on this board. In fact, I'm happy to see people who accept the concept of otherkin and want to learn more, although they're not otherkin themselves. You might find the article section of this forum quite helpful!

Re: New Member
Thanks for the welcome guys! The articles were the first thing I checked out, Kahoku, mostly because they are visible to guests so I was able to flip through them before I joined, although I haven't read the 'kin-specific' ones yet. I was happy to see a 'human' option on the drop down in the profiles, and in another section (rules maybe) it did mention part of the site's purpose being 'to learn'. Which was exactly my aim, coupled with the articles this seemed like a good place to start!

I just made my first post, Elinox! There's a lot to get get through on here, but I did try to take advantage of the 'search' option, still I feel like I'm bound to ask some inane question you guys have heard six million times. In advance; sorry! I didn't mean to! lol.

Hi Russ.

When you say you aren't otherkin, does that mean that you identify as human, or that the question doesn't apply? What kind of site did you co-found (as always, you don't have to answer any question you're uncomfortable with)? Just curious. Thought I'd ask...

You have to be gentle with the roots. They have little microscopic hairs on them to soak up water that can easily be knocked off. Some plants go into shock if they're treated too roughly, too -- some even get carsick, and you have to let them adjust for a few days in a dim area before they're better. (Think if you were born to live in the solid ground and to expect a predictable day and night, and you're getting bumped and vibrated and jostled around like a constant severe earthquake or like you were uprooted, and the sun is changing places in the sky and the wind's battering you...it would stress you out.) Others like mint (which grows with runners) can be safely ripped into separate plants and repotted, and they're hardy enough to usually do fine. But then, mint will also root from cuttings as well...and smother the plants around it...

Okay, I don't know that much about plants, but I've been getting into the whole Water Elemental correspondence thing within the last few weeks... heh.

Anyhow, welcome.
