Nephilim
"When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose."

There are a few interpretations of Genesis 6:4. One of those interpretations say that the "sons of God" were the fallen and had children with the "daughters of men". Who were the Nephilim? Were they the result of angels and humans breeding? Were they an alien race? Or do you think they were just tall humans?

Re: Nephilim
My personal view of angels (and demons for that matter) is that they're basically energy beings...so they can choose to incarnate, but then would simply be human with angelic or demonic energy...like angel- and demon-kin. Therefore, I believe that they could only copulate with a human in human form, so the result would be a human child. Maybe a human child with more psychic tendencies, but human none-the-less, not some kind of angel-human half breed like the nephilim are supposed to be.

Re: Nephilim
There are several ways to consider this answer.

A more scientific and historical account may be that the stories of Giants in the land are mutations of the original encounters between Neanderthal and early Cro-Magnon. Certainly the Neanderthals were stronger, bulkier, and (possibly) larger in stature than the Cro-Magnons. It may also have been slight mutations in genetics, as (at least in the Biblical accounts) the Giants/Nephilim/Anakim were all of one race/tribe/culture/what-have-you. Of course, anything higher than about 5 feet would have been a giant to them.*

On a more mythological standpoint, the figures of giants/large monsters as adversaries to the prominent mythic race is hardly unique. Think of the Titans, the Jotnar, the Formorii, the Rakshas, Tiamat's brood... All they really are are figures of the uncontrollable nature surrounding human culture, the forces that must be bargained with, defeated or appeased to ensure survival.

On an angelic/scriptural account, supposedly the Grigori are responsible the Nephilim. As I understand it, when the Grigori attempted to rectify Lucifer's "mistake," a fringe group decided to create their own "mankind" in response to Alaha's "precious Adam." It was mostly Sariel's and Shemhazai's doing.

So, my answer is: Yes <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->

*No, Goliath was not 9'9". That's a misconception based on an untranslatable measurement and differences in biological anatomy throughout the years. He was probably no taller than about 6'0-6'5.

And should it be that we shall never meet again,
Know that I will always keep you in my heart,
And I will search for you in that time beyond time
Until we do meet again, and you will know
That love and family are the miracles of the world.

Re: Nephilim
I agree with a lot of what Nic stated, all in all, Genesis is a great number of accounts made to attempt to explain what the Hebrew people had no idea how other to explain. The Nephalim fall in line with a large number of other mythical beings.

I for one believe that Otherkin is not a new concept, and I theorize that perhaps at the time, a number of Fallen may have incarnated, essentially being Otherkin and very well aware of themselves, the few that were talked about happened to be fit, dangerous and most of all large and in charge.

On the terms of Angels and Demons being energy beings and the inability to really physically manifest, I believe that is the case for most scenarios, but I do believe in the case of Angels who designed and maintain the laws of existence of the universe have certain liberties to bend said laws if ordered to. If we think of this as similar terms to today, view the movie, The Matrix. The Humans who had awakened and were freed could re-enter the matrix from outside, and bend some rules. The protagonist, Neo, was able to change the rules as he saw fit. Apply this concept to Angels, except that they are in control of the laws and can change them to their advantage as a result of their purpose.

I think someone else already posted up a couple quotes from old philosphers regarding otherkinness, though different terms were used, so now, it's not a new concept.
That being said, if you stay with the rest of the explaination, there should actually have been MORE otherkin then than there are now. As, if that WAS right after the fall, most fallen probably would have tended to go to earth as a familiar location, whereas by now many of them have probably moved on to more esoteric pastures.
