Natural Magic
Magic, a thing we've all thought deeply about. Here are my thoughts.

Illusion, Summoning (transporting, forming), Changing, Elements (earth, fire, water, air), Energy (light, dark, order, chaos), Nature (animal, plant, life), Psychic (self, others), Defensive, Chant/oath

Eight natural magics, each of these "branches" is used at will with no need for words. These eight magics lie in a circle surrounding the ninth. I arrange them my way, I am sure you will arrange them another. I have thought long and hard and believe these eight branches to contain the whole of magic.

It is my belief that we are each born with one magic for us to control. The two directly next to them on our circles are the next easiest to command, requiring a bit of focus. While those on the far side are extremely difficult to access. Normally the far side magics require vocal activation and intense concentration.

The Ninth Magic, Chant or Oath, lies in the center and grants access to the others. Those who have "lost" their natural magic can still make use of the ninth.

Thats a very interesting way of describing magic. I like it <!-- sTongue --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- sTongue -->
How did you come up with this?

Re: Natural Magic
When I am at work I have time to contemplate. I thought about this system of organization and it seemed to work in theory. As I put more thought into I had a harder time finding things that didn't fit someplace on the wheel.

There is a way to access the whole wheel. A manner where the whole wheel is your natural magic and you don't need any vocal elements. When you find the answer within yourself, that's Omnimagic.

Re: Natural Magic
Some of those branches could overlap though, Energy and elements could be considered similar, and many of those types of magic could be used for defensive purposes.

So how would a person figure out which magic is for them?

That's why I place energy next to the elements. To me, if I can control a Fire Magic naturally, energy would become a secondary magic. Also I place Nature Magic on the other side of Element.

A person with a brash personality wouldn't likely have Defensive Magic, it just wouldn't suit them. It's likely to show in the way the desire to use it. There are active, passive, and aggressive people out there. They will have magic that suits them.

So what types of people suit which types of magic?

Re: Natural Magic
Aggressive people might have fire or chaos. Maybe even earth, psychic, or nature (animal)

Passive people might have defensive, illusion, summoning, psychic, or changing.

You will find people who don't fit these "guidelines." I just knew I was interested in fire ever since I was sitting in church singing hymns and playing with a fire only I could see. After some thought years later, I realized also had access to nature (life) and some under the energy branch.

Yeah, I would have gone with those.
What exactly is "Changing"?

Out of those nine, I think summoning would most suit me.

Re: Natural Magic
I see changing as being the art of taking one thing, be it object or person, and altering them. Changing an existing staff and working magic to make it have magical qualities.

Because of the closeness to the forming part of summoning I place it next to summoning.
