Out of curiosity, what exactly defines elves as a group, in your opinion?

Re: How do you define 'Elves'?
That is a very tricky question, but it is different for each type of elf.

For me as a it is the embodiment of being connected to magic and the wyrd of the world. I am wondering if wyrd is the right word for what I mean XD

Ooh! Wyrd. I love that word. Can't remember exactly who I heard it from, first, though.

In any case, interesting. So, elves have a wide range of variation within them as a group?

Wyrd is a rune, I believe.

And return gift for gift;
Laughter for laughter let him return
And falsehood for lies.”

Re: How do you define 'Elves'?
Well according to wikipedia, wyrd is equivalent to fate. See the article here.

Re: How do you define 'Elves'?
so i was right in using it.
When i said Wyrd I mean't fate of the worlds. I believe elves have the gift to commune with planets and nature on an unearthyly level.

Re: How do you define 'Elves'?
I think I heard it from a philosophy context. . same defnitint ... definting.. guh, meaning as what Elinox and Tala'orin implied! (Can you tell I've been in class too long?)
Anyway, anyone else care to give their opinion of what sort of things define Elves?

Re: How do you define 'Elves'?
Well, to fall right into cliche` - pointy ears. Almost every myth, fiction, personal account, religion, etc I've seen/heard/read always mentions pointy ears.

Ja. Heh, once as a toddler I thought my ears were pointy like elf ears, and then promptly tried to tear them off. XD

Re: How do you define 'Elves'?
Being in this world, but not of it.

Being able to tap into and understand certain types of consciousness.

Being able to do magic.

Being able to heal.

Being an Elf is a rather singular experience.... but then again so is being Anything.

Not sure if this is the kind of answer you are looking for. But at the moment, it's the best and simplest I can offer.
