How do you decide how much to charge? (Heeeylp!)
In need of a bit of advice here! *waves*

For all you commissioning artists/those of you who sell art, how did you decide your price list? I'm soon going to be signing up to PayPal and selling my work (on Etsy, most likely) and the main thing I'm stuck on is how much to charge. I know there are PayPal charges, and there are Etsy and packaging costs to take into account (as well as materials if it's a traditional piece, labour costs, etc).

I don't want to charge too much, but at the same time I don't want to under-price it either.

Please help!

Re: How do you decide how much to charge? (Heeeylp!)
I probably could and even should charge more for my antler necklaces, but being an unknown artist I didn't want to hurt my chances of making any money so they're only $10USD.

Unfortunately, I've never been commissioned for anything else! But my prices for what I offer are:
antler necklace = $10
huggables = $20
tattoo designs = starting at $10
LJ mood sets = $20 for 20 moods

I think your prices should depend on the price of materials you use, the cost of shipping, the detail involved and how much time you spend doing one commission. Once you add all that up it should give you a reasonable starting commission price. Good luck!

Re: How do you decide how much to charge? (Heeeylp!)
I just sell jewelry I make, so it's kinda easy for me. I double the cost of supplies and on the more intricate pieces add a few dollars for labor. In terms of shipping and stuff, I just charge what it costs me to ship it (etsy has a separate shipping fee thing).

Like eBay does? Ahh, cool.

Like the others said, basically. Charge based on how much it cost to make and ship, and then bump that amount up for some profit so you can materials to make and shift more!

Re: How do you decide how much to charge? (Heeeylp!)
Since I just draw and paint, and have NO idea what my canvases costed when I bought them in bulk ages ago..
I go..

What'll be enough so that I feel okay to let go of this piece of myself (and every piece I do has a little "me" in it), plus shipping.
Adjusted to work on that sort of level that means I can compete with other artists, at least a little...
