Help! I'm thirsty and I can't drink water!
I'm on a new sleeping pill.
One of it's side effects is "bitter taste in mouth".
Whenever I drink water (Ice cold, native, tasty, delicious, cooling, refreshing tap water, to be exact) My mouth is filled with the flavor it would be filled with if I was chewing on paracetamol (painkillers).
The flavor is so intense I have to stop drinking or I throw up.
Milk's no good either.
Neither is chocolate milk. <!-- sSad --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- sSad -->

The list is like this;

Can Drink;
Beer
Coffee

Can't Drink;
Water
Milk
Chocolate Milk
Coke

That's all I've tried so far...
Any suggestions as to what I can drink to avoid dehydration?

Does this last the whole day or only after you took the meds? (So you could drink in advance)

Tea? Sports drinks like Gatorade? Can you eat fruit like oranges?

Juices like orange and apple. And like Sera said, something with electrolytes in it like Gatorade.

It lasts all day.
I take the med and am out for the night within an hour.
But the next day I wake up with that horrid taste in my mouth.

I have an english exam tomorrow and will opt to try and pick up some drinkables on way home from there..
Lets see what I got for the lists then. :/

Urg, that sounds nasty! Couldn't you ask a doctor for advice on what to drink? It sounds like such an uncomfortable side effect.

Pinapple juice is good.

Oatmeal and nuts are bad.

I'd go for any sort of juice, because of the sugar. Or, for that matter, try putting some sugar into water . . .

Coffee, tea, caffeinated soda, and some juices are diuretics. They will dehydrate you further.

You need to call your doctor and tell him/her you need a different prescription. If you cannot drink water you will get sick and be dehydrated. This is not a viable option.

You might well be able to get a different prescription, but to say you'll get dehydrated if you can't drink water is nonsense.

I haven't drunk any water in literally weeks; generally the only time I drink water is when I'm playing hockey and even then it's just to top up sports drinks. Plenty of people rarely if ever drink water.

I agree that unpleasant side effects are best minimised, but "If you cannot drink water you will get sick and be dehydrated" is flat-out factually wrong.
