Hello from a Black Dog
Greetings everyone, I'm Barghest and I'm a Black Dog. I recently joined OKA and kept hearing OKP being mentioned, so I decided I should come on over. When I first heard of otherkin, I tried to blow it off as wish fulfillment. But something resonated with me though, because I kept going back to the idea. I've always thought I had a strong canine aspect to my personality, but I didn't consider any deeper meaning to it until I started reexamining my personal beliefs.

When I first considered that I might be otherkin, I went through a few different kintypes. The first one that felt like it could fit was therianthrope. Then I started noticing a dragon aspect, but it seemed to just come out around other dragons for the most part. A couple months ago I finally had an epiphany that I was a black dog, most likely an underworld hound. The pieces seem to just fall into place, and it just felt right. I think that feeling that rightness is what finally prompted me to become an active participant in the otherkin community.

I still have my dragon aspect, but it seems to like to sleep most of the time. I finally came to the conclusion that it's a black Amphiptere, but it's hard to be sure when it isn't very active.

hello there, and welcome to okp!

i'm a little confused, so you're not the kind of black dog one would meet in the streets but some kind of "spiritual" dog (like zerberus)?

Yes, that's what I mean, although people do report meeting phantom black dogs in the streets. Most folklore classify them as fairy, but they also get classified as demon. Medieval Christians did start calling a lot of fairies demons, but they might not be wrong in this case. Both feel like they could be right, but also both feel not quite right. I'm starting to think elemental given the association with netherworld fire and with storms. Figuring out what I am seems to have raised a lot more questions, but I'm sure that's probably common with otherkin.
