Gryphon landing
Hi all. You can call me benu. My awakening as gryphon happened in the year 2005 shortly after I begun engaging in magic and shamanism. From that time on I've gone through multiple phases of doubt and belief. I still don't know much about where I came from and why I'm here. I have few memories but don't know if they are real, but I have a good idea how my gryphon self looks. It's pretty much the generic large cat/raptor blend with a tiger-like coloration and 1,20 m tall. I wonder if there is another one around. I've run into a few online, but none of them stuck to it longer than a few weeks.
Other than that, I'm a geology student and an artist.
Anyway, I want to learn more about other kintypes. I know a lot of dragons from a german dragon community and meet a few of them regularly in RL, but I'm pretty ignorant of other kintypes than dragons and therians.
I'm from germany, so my english might be a little awkward sometimes.

Welcome So what exactly brought you to the conclusion that you're gryphon-kin? I know you said memories, but I'd be interesting in hearing how you came across said memories, etc. Oh, and your english is quite good

Haha, thanks to dict.leo.org!
Well, I found out on a shamanic journey when a spirit there, also a gryphon suggested that I should look at myself and led me to a lake with a reflective surface. Thats when I saw what it was. I could feel that body too, and it felt perfectly natural. I know you can change your body into anything there, but it just happened, and it was the 'default' body on shamanic journeys from then on.
I don't really have many memories. It's just some incoherent pieces. I didn't make a past life regression with a therapist or something like that, only meditation with the goal to find out more about this possible gryphon past life.
And there are the other symptoms. Phantom limbs, though not always and not everything at once, the sensation that the human body has the wrong proportions, and I always had the feeling that I wasn't quite human somehow and not really a part of society. Any of these reasons can be explained away, but this doesn't change how I feel, and I learned that repressing it isn't a solution. So why not identify with it?

Actually, not quite, if you're on an actual journey into an otherworld. Maybe some can, but many experience a restriction in their abilities and forms when they're in another realm.

I believe you can theoretically find a way to change your form into, lets say, a squid there if you really want to. I must say that I didn't try this very often or with many different forms, and I'm certainly less experienced with shamanic journeys than others here, so I'm not really sure. But I can't think of a reason why you should be limited to a certain form there when you have no solid physical body.
Afaik it is not uncommon to change your form into that of your totem animal. It seems that changing into something very familiar, like human, gryphon, or my totem animal is relatively easy. I don't always have control over the form, and changes can happen unvoluntarily, usually to show me something. Those restrictions are usually just there to teach a lesson, they are not like invariable physical laws as far as I know.
