Getting Your Nerd On

So tomorrow night after recording our weekly podcast episode, Kreyas myself and our fellow podcast hosts will be watching Hitchhikers Guide on Sci-Fi while playing Stargate: SG-1 the board game (thats right, the board game lol XD).


Besides that, I enjoy playing things like Doom 3, Half-Life 2, and Unreal Tournament on my desktop (when they worked ;_; ). Also, through the powers of osmosis, I am starting to pick up on more and more computer geek stuff a la Kreyas.

So I admit it, I am a hopeless nerd and so are most of my friends <!-- s:geek: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_geek.gif" alt=":geek:" title="Geek" /><!-- s:geek: -->



Now for the million dollar question: How do you get your nerd on?

I work as a computer person, wearing several different hats, at least 1-2 of which could be labelled "guru".
I play miniatures wargames, including assembling, converting and painting minatures.
I like chess.
I play boardgames.
I'm a genius, I can pass the MENSA entrance test while half-asleep, sleep-deprived and half-drunk.
I LIKE to program.
I build computers.
I'm a gamer.
I've made my own games.
I play pen&paper RPGs - sometimes even over the internet!

However, I consider myself a 'geek' not a nerd. Cause, well, geeks have skills and besides, the geeks will inherit the earth.

apart from that, i wear a binary watch, i give names to my computers (and they even act like it - i once named a computer after a world of warcraft boss, and it refused to work with me), i read books on computational complexity, computer graphics, and distributed systems and enjoy it, i attend and organize larps,... uhm, i just cannot think of anything else.

- I enjoy reading; especially fantasy stuff.
- I helped co-create a RP game along with the world, creatures and characters found there.
- I have written and I read fanfiction.
- I enjoy intellectual discussions especially related to spirituality.
- I know a lot of random but interesting facts about a lot of stuff.
- I do voices. Srsly.
- I quote movies/tv shows/books on a regular basis.
- I prefer listening to soundtracks over most other music genres.
- I can speak in a variety of believable accents.
- I'm a spelling and grammar whore. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

-I plan for what to do in my video games in my spare times
-I spend most of my time working on a minimum of three browser windows at once
-I get bored if I have less than three
-I create my own vocabulary on a regular basis
-I keep track of my phases (I once had a phase where I used "danke" whenever thanking someone; now I bow)

I find nerds and geeks sexy.
I like it when someone talks nerdy to me.
I'm a glorified network plumber.
I do work on desktops, switches, and routers some. My real expertise is not in making your internets work but working on the path it takes to get to you.
I love to watch my husband or anyone play video games.
I play table top RPGs, not just limited to D&D.

I collect comic books and graphic novels.
I used to spend a lot of time at the library now i spend oodles of time at the book store.
I love to go used book shopping.
My online gaming is not that geeky cause it's Puzzle Pirates but I loved to watch my husband play WOW or DDO when he was still playing.
I love to read, I'm a serious word eater.

My husband keeps his Mensa card in his wallet, so when someone proclaims that he's a genius he can flip it open and declare "That's what the card says!"

-I read. A lot. Rapidly. (aka Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 6 hours.)
-I've heard of virtually any internet meme in existence. And if I haven't, I'll sure as heck remember it when I see it. (Dramatic chipmunk? WRYYYY? Numa numa, Achmed the Dead Terrorist, etc, ad infinitum) This is more appropriately known as being a "/b/tard" or "youtube whore" but whatever.
-I visit, contribute to, and laugh at, bash.org
-There will be cake at the end.
-I play chess
-I carry more than 2 pens/pencils/sharpies/etc on me at any time.
-I check out 8 or more books from the library at one time and return them on time, all read.
-I don't actually play Warhammer 40k, but still helped paint figurines with my friends/boyfriend.
-I check up on forums, daily.
-I actually was PART of the Gaia Online "zurg" plot. As in I know everyone in the comic, I talked to NPCs, etc.
-I read and have written fanfiction. Horrible, horrible fanfiction. DX

I don't have anything else right now. XD

*cracks his knuckles*

-I can recite all 6 Star Wars movies from memory
-I can recite all episodes of a show called M*A*S*H from memory and tell you all the flaws the episodes have
-I have read all but one of the "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" book series by Laurell K Hamilton
-I have named all but three of my 8 swords/blades
-I RP on messengers and on assorted forums
-I own a Wii, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 (Halo 3 special edition), Sega Game Gear, Nintendo DS
-I work as head of video game tourneys for my entire college campus and I am paid to play video games
-I have played World of Warcraft, Asheron's Call 1&2, and currently play Guild Wars
-I belog to three different forums, though the other two are failing
-MySpace is my home page lol
-I sing and dance
-I am an actor
-I have music from classical to soundtracks of video games
-I enjoy intellectual debates/discussions
-I have four different stories partly written
-I carry, in a special bag, an athame, gemstone pouch, and a small book of shadows at all time
-I play Naruto TCG, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic The Gathering
-My DS has Pokemon Diamond and FireRed in it right now
-I have seen every episode of Naruto so far, including the new Naruto Shippuuden.
-I own a Kakashi vest, Leaf Ninja headband and over 200 Naruto TCG cards
-I have lightsabers of Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Luke Skywalker, and Mace Windu
-I have Star Wars figures ranging from Boba Fett to Han Solo to Prince Xizor

I dont know how geek or nerd some of these are, but there is a part of my resume if you will lol
