Egyptian Angels
I was just wondering if anyone is or knows about angels in egyptian myth/of the egyptian persuasion. I'm pretty sure FreeLanceAngel identifies as an egyptian angel, but I haven't seen her around much. Any personal info, links, sources, etc. would be highly appreciated

Re: Egyptian Angels
The Neteru? If I remember correctly, they're more commonly referred to as Egyptian gods. Isis, Osiris, Ra, etc. I could be totally off the mark. They are the "all who are one," personifications of the One God, universal principles, etc., last I read.

Re: Egyptian Angels
Yeah, I meant like actual angels serving the Egyptian gods. Not gods themselves

Re: Egyptian Angels
Okay. I'd only read about the Neteru being equated with Egyptian angels. Good luck.

Re: Egyptian Angels
Thanks. They seem to not exist in myth, but I've run into at least one in the otherkin community...

Re: Egyptian Angels
Are you sure they weren't talking about the Neteru? I believe FreeLanceAngel has described herself as a Neteru before.

Re: Egyptian Angels
I didn't think she claimed to be an Egyptian god, but an angel of Osiris. I'm interested in any and all accounts of actual angels to the gods, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't have angels, even if they were left out of the mythos.

Not Egyptian, but in the Greek/Roman pantheon the gods and goddesses had messengers similar to what could be considered angels. They weren't technically angels but they were more like demi-gods or minor gods/goddesses. Here's a good example; Iris was the goddess of the rainbow and would carry messages between the gods. If you check out her wiki article here, the second image down the page depicts her with angel-like wings.

So there were obviously "angels" in other mythologies but they weren't necessarily called angels.

Re: Egyptian Angels
Amourosa: Where in Egyptian texts does it say anything about monism? Tongue The Netjer were seen as god figures, there were also different creation myths as to how they came to be. And the closest thing to monotheism was perhaps the cult of Aten, which..only lasted for a short period under Pharaoh Akhenaten.

As for there being "Angels", assistants to the deities were generally seen to be minor deities themselves. Which is common to other ancient religions also.

“A considerable percentage of the people we meet on the street are people who are empty inside, that is, they are actually already dead. It is fortunate for us that we do not see and do not know it.”

Re: Egyptian Angels
My knowledge on the origins of the Egyptian gods is very limited. I meant to change that post because I didn't want to reflect the ever-interesting Akhenaten's religion. :eye roll: I also listed "universal principalities," which is more of what I was going for. Maat, for example.

The trickiest thing about the ancient Egyptian religion, for me, is how malleable it is. A pharaoh could come along and do whatever he/she wanted with it, that's why I sometimes have a hard time finding accurate or substantiated articles. *sigh* Also, the numerous implications of "angel" don't help.
