Demons and Demonolatry
Note: not Demonology

Brief description from OFS Demonolatry:
Quote:Modern Demonolatry is a polytheistic religion in which Demonic entities are worshiped and worked with as wise divinities. Each Demon is the wellspring of a single energy source. These energies can be defined as universal elements, emotions, or ideas. The most common pantheon of Gods used are Demonic--from Christian mythologies about diabolical beings, which were formerly the Gods of pre-Christian pagan religions. However, Roman, Greek, and other pantheons have been used. Perhaps the most popular of the pantheons is the Richard Dukant Hierarchy, which was developed in the early 1960's. It became the basis for many modern Demonolatry sects.

Just another example of how malleable the term "demon" is, but I'm curious if any demons here would (or do) follow such a religion?

In many ways, it feels like an offshoot of theistic Satanism too.

Re: Demons and Demonolatry
Okay. Why would I worship something equal to me? o.O

It's like, in a real life example, worshiping your friend. There's no point to it; they're not any sort of supreme being to you. It's pointless.

Re: Demons and Demonolatry
i agree with simim.

also, if you leave away the demon part and use [insert random pantheon here] instead, you'll have another, already existing religion or religious idea (in most cases, the practice isn't much like the idea though).

but yes, it is nice not to be regarded as teh evilz. that's why i like them.

hm, i might just sign up on their forums and find out how long it will take until i get banned for "pretending to be a god".

Re: Demons and Demonolatry
It seems cumbersome to me, the quote itself seem to imply that the line between what is and what is not a god is a little blurry (The gods of old pantheons became demons in a new one). I can maybe understand what it's attempting to accomplish (and perhaps I should read up on it some more to see how, where and why lines are drawn between demon and god). From the little quote though, it seems like any it'd be appealing to the adolescents trying to be nihilistic towards the world.

That's a complicated question and sentiment, as it's answers can depend and vary from perspective, or how one defines, believes or interacts with their or any god-form. I will say that it's not a foreign, or even a strange idea to me, to have objects that represent a person, or people someone knows as a part of their altar. Personally, my take on worship is that I am not paying tribute to a "supreme" being, but rather a being I wish to empower, be they a work of fiction, a friend, or a mythological person that has been worshiped for centuries. I suppose one could relate it to D/s on the personal level, or "voluntary order" on a community level.

I don't see anything there saying you can't join, simply that you should wear your asbestos undies....but being a demon you're already equipped with those, right?

Hahaha! Sleeping with demons in the physical world? I wonder how many people were turned away with a frowny face because of that!

Re: Demons and Demonolatry
Here's the website I got that info off of: http://www.ofs-demonolatry.org/

Apparently though that's just one little group who decided to make some of their beliefs public. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any info coming from any other supposed groups, so that's the only major one online to find (outside of the book titled "Demonolatry", but I haven't read that yet).

They do sound a bit kooky and stuck up to some others from the initial rules, but they're actually pretty logical and cool once you start talking to them. What they're trying to stay away from when they say "you cannot say you're a demon" are those goth/"satanic" wanna-be kids and those along similar RP lines, not the otherkin idea. I actually did bring that up in a thread, and no one responded rudely to it, just rationally.

You guys wouldn't be considered demons, since your definition of demon and their definitions are different. To them, a demon is actually a deity from their own pantheon (there's a list of various grimores that some find inspiration in on the site, for example), while to you guys (from what I'm reading in these threads) are energy beings/forms of chaos instead. To say you are a deity and say you're a chaotic energy being is a bit different (since the later does not assume great power, just suggests a form).

So someone like simim or kohaku would be ok, just considered a different term by them, but someone like Motley might not be

i don't think they sound stuck-up at all. or at least not more than we do by telling people to stay away if they only want to convince us we're insane.

Sweet, are you under the same name there?

And I meant to say stuck-up as according to others, but those were usually ones who weren't serious about any of it in the first place.

I like it there myself, even though I'm not a Demonolater by any means. It makes for an interesting read.
