Anyone ever had a Rider?
(Aimed mostly at dragons and other large beings that can carry things)

Has anyone ever had an owner (I hate that term) or some sort of rider? Maybe you were a beast of burden before? (Totally not trying to offend anyone by using that term, I just can't think of any other term to call it, sorry!)

When I first started actively concentrating on my past life as a gryphon (I think. Still working on it) I feel like I had a very strong connection to a hummanoid/large elf being, who I believe I was their gryphon. I had a harness not unlike a horse that would allow someone to ride on my back right above my wings. Sometimes I get urges to wear a collar or get some sort of harness just to ease the feeling of not wearing it, sort of like phantom limbs but it's not actually a part of me.

Don't get me wrong, I liked being this being's mount. I feel/felt very strongly towards my Rider. It's a feeling like love, but not romantic or sexual in any way. It's ridiculously, stupidly strong, like I have to know where my Rider is so I can protect them with my life if need be. I just need to know that they are okay, and then I'll be okay. If I don't know where they are or if they are injured or not then I would get panicky and try my hardest to find them. It's ridiculous. I feel it even now, though I don't know this beings name, race, gender... really anything of value. It's sort of driving me insane whenever I M-Shift (Which is most nights... Annoying as heck).

Anyway I wanted to know:
A) If not draconic/gryphon/unicorn/other, did you 'own' a gryphon and please please please can I talk to you.
B) Has anyone else had experiences like this?

Dragonriders seem to be fairly common in fiction, but yet I (speaking strictly on my own, yet limited, experience) have not seen anyone who has spoken of having a Rider in a past life.

((If this doesn't make sense please tell me and I will try my best to clarify. Words are hard when I'm thinking about gryphon memories.))

Re: Anyone ever had a Rider?
None of us in our system has memories having a rider, no. Then again only a few of us have any “past life memories” to speak of. Then again a number of us take what might be memories not of this life with a grain of salt with interest.

I can’t say much on memories since I have none so speak of recalled if they are there at all, However I do not find the idea of being ridden something I would care for. Perhaps it is because I am a unicorn but the idea of being ridden by someone for general and daily ‘use’ ( I can’t think of a better word) seems a bit disinteresting to me.

I mean, in our innerworld (where everyone in our system is) Zeoriel, who is a snowy owl harpy will sometimes perch on my back while I walk around but I hardly consider that like a formal rider of any sort.

Re: Anyone ever had a Rider?
Now that you mention it, gryphon riders do seem strangely absent from most fantasy epics. I did a quick Google search and it is a prestige class in Dungeons & Dragons. And 'gryphon' yielded WoW mount results. <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? -->

Nevertheless, I don't see why a gryphon couldn't have a rider depending on the physical capabilities of the mount and the right physical sized rider.

When you feel the need to wear a harness have you considered getting a collar? It might help with that feeling of longing you're experiencing.

Yeah I'm taking any past-life memories with a grain of salt as well. I just go through them over and over and if if they change then I throw them out.
I don't feel like it was a 'beast of burden'-type deal, but... Ack this is hard to explain. I loved my rider more than anything else. I lived for this being, from what I can tell from what little I can recall. (Which is very very little- mostly this feeling and flying.) It wasn't a "I am a slave to this intellectually higher being" but more of a "Yay I get to spend the day with my best friend in the entire world and I want them to be happy so I will happily do whatever they want!" feeling.
Sort of like driving your friends around because they want to go someplace but you are the only one that can drive/has a car. You want them happy so you do it. IDK iffy example, it's just the closest thing I can think of right now.

I've been looking for other Gryphons or gryph-like beings, and I have found two or three. The internet is not being very helpful. :/
From what I could gather, I was slightly larger than a horse, and I'm betting that (assuming that my Rider is humanoid) my Rider is slightly shorter than the height of my beak to the ground.
I do have a collar but people look at me weird if I wear it in public, and then I feel uncomfortable.

Re: Anyone ever had a Rider?
Ah, I see. In that case, while I still can’t say as I have past life memories, but currently in this life in our innerworld I do let Zeoriel ride on my back for an easy way to walk around together without him having to fly a bit and land and fly a bit and land.

Re: Anyone ever had a Rider?
I've often wondered if anyone had either a rider or a pact partner but so far I havent had an answer on it so it's okay.

Re: Anyone ever had a Rider?
Fun fact: Magic the Gathering just introduced gryphon riders. Oddly enough, the gryphon-like creatures are called "Gryffs." That's the only time I've seen anyone besides myself use that spelling. I've seen gryphon riders in D&D as well.

But I digress. If that sort of thing was a constant factor in your past life, then certainly "feeling" it here makes some amount of sense. I've never had that feeling myself, but then, I don't necessarily believe my kin-ness comes from a past life. I'm not sure how I would feel about someone riding on me as a centaur. On one hand, it isn't very dignified. On the other hand, neither are centaurs. So I don't know. In recent fiction, though, writers tend to have centaurs very much against the idea.

In any case, if these feelings are really what you think they are, it would suggest that having a rider was indeed a major part of your past life, and perhaps one that's surging right now for whatever reason.

Re: Anyone ever had a Rider?
As I recall the only thing riding me were the damn Aristocrats..usually metaphorically >..> Incidentally this is still verymuch an issue! Tongue

Back on the topic, I get the impression my people typically utilize smaller Bipedal (as well as humanoid) forms often, for logistical reasons hence the ability to be ridden is nigh impossible; not that any of us would allow it..save for perhaps a very dire circumstance for a good, flightless friend? Tongue I think we may have used more feral reptilian-like beings for transportation ourselves, however.. it's something I haven't investigated very thoroughly, admittedly.

Re: Anyone ever had a Rider?
In another life I was 'bonded' to someone whom I allowed to ride me. My purpose though seemed more 'guardian beast' -ish in manner. Also, from the memory I recall it felt more like a mission in the midst of a battle.
