7 pointed star
What do you all think of when you see the 7-pointed star / septagram (oh i hope that's the right word LOL)?

Do you associate it with generalized otherkin, or do you associate it with fae or elves? Do you associate it with anything in particular, or just a star that happens to have 7 points?

Do you think the general public would even notice it has 7 points? Would they confuse it with the pentagram (OK once again - is it pentagram or pentacle?), or even the Star of David?

Re: 7 pointed star
I tend to associate it with OtherKin in general, although I have heard it originally represented either elves or fairies (not sure.) But I have been lead to understand it is representative of OtherKin in general rather than a specific type.
I think a good chunk of people would notice it has seven points, and therefore not confuse it with the Star of David or pentagrams/pentacles. But of course there are others who would not be familiar with the other symbols, might miscount the points, and other things, which could lead to them thinking it represents something it actually does not (I have had people think an anarchy symbol was a pentagram/pentacle.)

To the best of my recollection, a pentacle is a five-pointed star-in-a-circle with one point at the top and two "feet." A pentagram is a five-pointed star-in-a-circle with one point at the bottom and two "horns." I could be wrong however.

Re: 7 pointed star
The heptagram (or septegram) is actually a multi-facted symbol- much like all symbols. ^_~ While it is called the 'faerie star' in Wiccan 'tradition' -I say 'tradition' loosely simply because Wicca is only about forty years old- it is also symbolic in Christianity, was used by the Cherokee Nation, was first seen in the Kabbalah, and is used in alchemy.

Re: 7 pointed star
Pentagram and pentacle are more or less just two words for the same thing.
The Septagram, or seven pointed star, was initially taken into use by elves and as such I associate it with elves first and otherkin second.
I also think, that since each point in it is much more slender than in the pentagram, that it looks a little dainty or frilly and as such I do associate it more with those kintypes I tend to see as more "dainty" or frilly or anything in that general direction, such as elves and fae and yes, celestials.

Re: 7 pointed star
While it is often called the "faerie star" or "elven star" I associate it with otherkin in general.

Freetha...not all celestials are frilly. I'm quite badass thanks

Re: 7 pointed star
I rather like the septagram. Especially the rainbow one. I'm going to get it tattooed.

As far as I know, the Silver Elves started using the septagram as their own little website's symbol, and then somehow a lot of other websites started using it too. Then it became recognized (sort of) as a universal symbol for otherkin. Again, sort of.
The Silver Elves' website has apparently been shut down, unfortunately. I wonder what happened.

I like it, I plan to get it in a manner that looks like flames and earth combining near it, and say in some cool font "I DO NOT Belong." around it.... Maybe with flames in the background

Re: 7 pointed star
We've chosen to associate it with elves (and other Fae) because of personal preference. It does have other meanings; for example, it can represent the seven "planets" of the ancients or the Seven Cardinal Virtues.

Re: 7 pointed star
I wonder if they picked up the 7 pointed star because you could link each point to one of the largest otherkin groups?

1- celestial-angelic type
2- demonic-chaotic type
3- draconic-scaly type
4- vampiric-life sucker type
5- fae-wild spirit-y type
6- therians-animalistic type
7- walk-ins/mixed-starish type

*facepalm* I can't believe I had that horrible typo.
